Go: A Kidd's Guide to Graphic Design
by Chip Kidd
Kidd is a well-known graphic designer, best known for his provocative book covers (for examples, see books by Oliver Sacks). So it's no surprise that his own book Go: A Kidd's Guide to Graphic Design, is expertly designed. It begins immediately, on the front cover, and doesn't stop until you reach the back cover. Using stunning images and type, Kidd introduces children to the elements of design and how to use those elements in creative ways. These elements include form, which encompasses myriad details like scale, focus, pattern, and color theory, and typography - typefaces, type styles, points, and picas. He also shows how content and concept influence the design's message. He ends with ten design projects that kids can try, from creating a poster to designing a personal logo.
Fun, easy, and inspiring, this book will awaken creativity in both children and adults.
Highly recommended.
