Schools and libraries

My School in the Rain Forest: How Children Attend School Around the World
by Margriet Ruurs

Readers who enjoyed Susan Hughes' Off to Class will also like Ruurs' book. The schools she discovered are on boats, on mountains, in monasteries, and in jungles. Other students attend class by radio.

Inserts provide geographical information, although the maps are too vague. They show country outlines only; the location of cities aren't included.

My Librarian Is a Camel: How Books Are Brought to Children Around the World
by Margriet Ruurs

Children who get their library books from brick-and-mortar buildings will be surprised to learn that other children aren't so lucky. In places that are too remote for easy access, library books are delivered by bus, mail, wheelbarrow, boat, camel, donkey, and elephant!

The text is a bit dry, and more quotes from young readers would have been nice; still, kids should find the book interesting.
